What I Love about Abstract Painting
In my last post, I told you about my journey to abstract painting. Now I’d like to share some of the many reasons I love abstract painting.
Abstract art allows me to express myself without words or realistic imagery. Every brushstroke is an expression of my inner self, whether it’s the way I’m feeling or the choices that please me. It’s so good for my spirit, mental health and well being.
Painting abstract acrylics keeps my mind sharp. Every painting forces me to do problem-solving to make the piece “work.” And my imagination is ignited both while painting and in my daily life—I make connections and get new ideas everywhere I go.
I don’t make art to impress others, although selling my work is always thrilling. My main motivation is free self-expression.
As Mothers Day approaches, I’m reminded of how images were the final way my mother and I communicated as she suffered the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease. I love how art can be a powerful communication tool. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of my mom and feel her presence with me as I paint.
How about you? What drives you to create abstract art (even if you simply feel the pull to do it but haven’t tried it yet)? I’d love to see your comments—I read and treasure them all!
