Turning Passion into Presence: Why I Said Yes to Sharing My Artist Story (And Why You Should Too)

I recently had the opportunity to give a presentation about my work as an abstract artist. I brought in a few paintings, shared my process, and gave a live demo showing how I begin a piece with mark making and layers. I spoke about color, inspiration, and joy—and how all of these things flow into the work I create.

To be honest, it felt vulnerable at first. But it was also incredibly rewarding.

I was reminded that sharing our journey as artists isn’t just about promoting our work—it’s about connection. It’s about opening the door for others to feel seen, inspired, and empowered to express themselves too.

If you’re an artist reading this, I want to encourage you: your story matters.

Whether you’ve been painting for years or just found your way to the canvas, what you have to share can make a difference. You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just be honest. Be passionate. Let people into your world.

Here are a few reasons to say “yes” the next time an opportunity comes to speak or present your work:

• It builds confidence. Talking about your art helps clarify your voice and purpose.

• It inspires others. Whether it’s a fellow artist or a future collector, someone will connect deeply with what you share.

• It creates community. Speaking opens doors to collaborations, teaching gigs, exhibits, and friendships.

• It honors your journey. You’ve come a long way—and that deserves to be seen and celebrated.

So start small if you need to. Offer to demo at a local art center. Share your process on social media. Say yes to that community group or artist talk.

You never know who might need to hear what you have to say.

And if you ever need encouragement—know I’m cheering you on.
