The Top 4 Reasons to Take an Online Art Course

I’m a big believer in lifelong learning, so I’m continually growing my skills through courses and programs—most of which are online. And I’ve been teaching art and art entrepreneurship online for several years. Through these experiences as an online student and an online teacher, I’ve come to believe that online learning is the best way to grow your skills without busting your schedule or your budget.

Here are the top four reasons why you should be taking online art classes:

  1. You Get a Front Row Seat—and You Can Repeat!

Online art instructors get you up close and personal. Often, the demos are super close up. It’s like you’re sitting right there with your teacher!

But there’s an extra advantage: Online classes allow you to pause the video, watch it at a slower speed, and watch it as many times as you want. For many learners (including me), this really improves learning and provides a feeling of safety and control.

Many (if not most) online classes have “lifetime” access, so you don’t lose your investment if you find yourself unable to participate in the course right away. And I’ve rewatched certain courses after a year or two—it was like seeing it with new eyes, since I’d gained more experience in the interim.

2. Paint When You Want To

I love the flexibility that online classes offer. You may be a morning painter or a night-owl artist. Perhaps you work all week and indulge in art all weekend long. No matter when you want to learn, online courses are available.

And you don’t have to leave home! While taking in-person art workshops is fun, it’s a huge time commitment, even if it’s local. It’s a lot of work to pack and schlep your materials, as well. Online classes make it easy and convenient to access art instruction!

3. You Still Get Support and Feedback

Like most online art instructors, I provide plenty of opportunities for my students to get feedback and support from me. This is done via live video sessions or in a community area. I know how important it is for students to ask questions, show their work to the teacher, and receive suggestions.

4. Comfort and Freedom to be Fearless!

In a live classroom, it can be hard to “keep your eyes on your own paper.” Especially when we’re starting out, we can easily feel intimidated. But in an online class, we can keep ourselves safe from the comparison trap. You’re in the driver’s seat, so you can avoid looking at the work of other students and treat the course like a private lesson.

Learning in this bubble of safety, we can give ourselves the freedom to take risks in our art. Get crazy and be fearless—you’re in control of your privacy. I believe that when we reach this state of freedom, we make our biggest breakthroughs.

Get a Class onto Your Schedule!

What kinds of art classes are you yearning to take? I’ll be offering my flagship course, Basic to Brilliant, in October! This six-week course is all about learning to create abstract acrylic paintings that dazzle the viewer. If you’re looking to take your abstract painting to the next level (or if you’re intrigued by abstract painting but unsure where to begin), get on the waitlist.

I wish you happy learning!
