Summer Blog Series: Visit Summer Art Exhibits Across the USA, Part 3: Asheville, NC

This summer I’ve been encouraging you to visit art exhibits no matter where your summer travels take you, whether you’re heading to the shore or overseas. I’ve highlighted some of the summer’s most exciting art exhibitions in New York City and Chicago. Today, I’m taking you to the mountains of North Carolina, to the artsy city of Asheville.

Chihuly at Biltmore Exhibit

Biltmore Estate is a must-see when you’re in the Asheville region. While there’s something for everyone to enjoy about the estate, I think it’s especially inspiring for artists. Whether you’re inspired by interiors, furniture design, florals, landscapes, architecture, or history, Biltmore is sure to get your creative juices flowing!

This summer is a particularly good season to visit Biltmore, as they are having an art exhibit featuring the work of famed glass artist Dale Chihuly. Chihuly at Biltmore is a paid-ticket experience at Amherst at Deerpark, the event center at Biltmore. Not only can you marvel at his glass vessels and sculptures in an intimate setting, but you can also see his marvelous drawings. I’m in awe of this artist’s sense of shape and color!

Asheville is Teeming with Creativity and Charm

Asheville is a great city to spend a few days. There are so many art galleries and high quality craft stores. You could get a big jump start on your holiday shopping in a place like Asheville, or come home with heirlooms for your own collection. And the southern food is delicious! If you’re outdoorsy, there are ample scenic hiking opportunities in the area, as well as activities like fishing.

Recharge Your Creative Batteries While Traveling

I hope that you’ve been having a great summer and that you’ve been able to visit some new areas. Have you brought your travel collage kit or sketchbook with you to capture what inspires you? Remember that it’s ok to step away from your studio and your regular routine, even if that feels jarring. Our creative process needs a rest and recharge, just like our bodies do! Happy travels, friend.
